2014 Indianapolis 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay and the famed Borg Warner Indy 500 trophy spent Tuesday touring America’s capitol. As part of a promotion to drive awareness for May’s 100th running of the Indy 500, RHR, Indianapolis Motor Speedway CEO Doug Boles, and the $3 million trophy made stops at the House of Representatives and met with Speaker Paul Ryan, among others.

“It was a huge honor,” said RHR, who drives the No. 28 DHL Honda for Andretti Autosport. “It was something new to me. I was surprised by the amount of interest in the Indy 500 and the Borg Warner. I appreciate the House of Representatives for having us and celebrating one of America’s greatest traditions, the Indy 500.”

Added Boles: “The reception that we’ve had today has been pretty overwhelming. It truly is the greatest race in the world and people from all over the country are demonstrating that today with their excitement in meeting Ryan Hunter-Reay and the Borg.”

The Floridian made numerous stops with the Borg Warner trophy after winning the Indy 500, including an appearance on Late Night with David Letterman, and says the trip to Washington D.C. with the grand creation was an honor.

“It was cool taking it all in and it is one of those experiences that you relish,” he remarked. “This is a very proud moment for me, as an American winner, in our nation’s capital with the powers that be discussing the Indy 500 and the road to victory.”

The 100th Indy 500 takes place on May 29.
