GMR Grand Prix Race Report

“We found ourselves digging out of another massive hole today. I had to drive my tail off from 22nd up through the field, close a 15-second gap on track, and then pass seven cars. It was frustrating to say the least, that’s two races in a row now where we’ve had to come back from way behind. Hopefully we can get rid of that streak and the DHL team can move on to better things at Road America.”

Round 2 of NTT INDYCAR SERIES competition is complete as the historic racing weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is in full swing with NASCAR taking the track Sunday.

The condensed GMR Grand Prix weekend saw just one practice session before qualifying Friday, followed by a brief warmup and 80-lap main event in Saturday’s Indiana heat. The race was run without fans in attendance due to percussions surrounding the ongoing global health crisis.

  • STARTED: 12th // FINISHED: 13th
  • CHAMPIONSHIP: 9th (41 pts.)
  • OF NOTE: Finished the morning warmup in third // Rose into the top 10 before the 28 crew’s first pit stop on Lap 15, when an equipment issue resulted in the loss of 14 spots // Returned from 22nd to finish 13th

The Series now heads into back-to-back doubleheader race weekends at Road America and Iowa Speedway, respectively. Fans will return to INDYCAR with those events, though with limited access areas.
