“We really missed it this weekend – in a big way. We have a ride compliance issue where we just don’t have enough grip. In the race I found myself just racing myself; just trying to keep the car off the wall, that was the main exercise all day. Barber is a nice, smooth road course and we had a good test there so hopefully next week will look better for the DHL team.”

From start to checkered, today’s Grand Prix of Long Beach saw nothing but green flags and blue skies for 80 solid laps of racing.

A top-of-the-field finish wasn’t in the cards for Ryan Hunter-Reay, and the team now packs up and heads east for Round 4 of competition at the scenic Barber Motorsports Parks in just a week’s time.

  • Started from 11th on the 1.968-mile track and quickly gained position working his way to ninth in the opening laps
  • Battling fuel conservation and handling all day, the 2012 series champion finished 18th

The Honda Grand Prix of Alabama starts April 24 at 3 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network.
