Honda Indy Toronto Qualifying Report

torontoRyan Hunter-Reay qualified seventh for Sunday’s race in the DHL/Sun Drop Chevrolet, missing the Fast Six qualifying session by .07 (seven-hundreths of a second). He has two third-place finishes here at Toronto since joining Andretti Autosport in 2010, and he is aiming for a third consecutive victory in the IZOD IndyCar Series.

As a team, Andretti Autosport is also attempting to win three consecutive races for the third time in the company’s history. They achieved the feat twice in 2005, with Dan Wheldon winning three straight races, followed by Wheldon and Tony Kanaan grabbing three in a row later in the year.

“We just missed it by a little bit,” explained Hunter-Reay. “We had a little bit too much understeer, but tomorrow’s the only day that counts so I think we’re looking good for the race. This track is a challenge to find the balance between how your car reacts in the slow corners versus how it handles in the fast corners. Toronto is always a great race for the fans, but it’s nerve-wracking for us drivers because you’re always worried about getting hit from behind. The racing has been awesome this year, and I expect the same (tomorrow).”
