Indianapolis 500 Practice Report – May 13, 2014

UnknownWith over 30 divers on track so far, hundreds of practice laps are in the books for the 98th Indianapolis 500 and American driver Ryan Hunter-Reay tops the charts. Hunter-Reay has turned 213 total laps around the famed 2.5-mile oval, reaching a top speed of 225.025 miles-per-hour — the fastest time posted at IMS in three days of on-track activity. The 2012 Verizon IndyCar Series champion started the 2013 Indy 500 from the seventh position and is on target to be a front row contender during this weekend’s qualification runs.

“It’s fun out there with the teammates – that’s a great thing about Andretti Autosport,” said Hunter-Reay. “We had five quick cars and we can all run together. We are all trying to get a feel for downforce levels and just race sim(ulation). We’ve got a lot done so far with the DHL Honda. We’re not getting really worried with our speeds just yet – a couple guys were at trimming levels, but right now it’s all about race simulation. As the week progresses we’ll start to looking at speeds for qualifying runs.”

Fans not able to make it out to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend can catch all of the qualifying action on ABC at 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. Live timing and scoring can also be seen online via http://racecontrol.indycar.com
