Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay has been nominated for a 2014 ESPY Award in the Best Driver category. The 2013 ESPY winner’s nomination comes from his 2014 Indianapolis 500 victory – the second closest race finish and second fastest finish in Indy 500 history, as well as the first race producing an American winner since 2006.
“It’s such an honor to be nominated again,” said Hunter-Reay. “This is more exciting news following what was one of the most intense finishes in the history of the Indy 500. The list of ESPY nominees includes top athletes from around the world and in so many forms of sport. The ESPY we won following our Verizon IndyCar Series Championship sits amongst the awards of my most significant accomplishments.”
The ESPYS will air live on ESPN on July 16 at 9 p.m. ET. In the meantime, fans can cast their vote for Hunter-Reay by visiting ESPYS.com.
The Verizon IndyCar Series heads to Houston this weekend for the ninth and tenth rounds of competition of the 2014 season.
