Grand Prix of Portland Race Report

“We had an excellent start and moved up to 14th. We had a really good start, had really good pace in the DHL Honda – passing cars out there. Then a yellow at the wrong time put us all the way back to P21 again. It was just one of those deals. We had the pace today. Things were going our way until they weren’t. Good to see Alex [Rossi] finish P2 for the team.”

The NTT INDYCAR SERIES returned to Portland International Raceway on Sunday after the 2020 race was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions. As the green flag flew for the Grand Prix of Portland, Turns 1 and 2 proved to be action-packed as the caution flag came out immediately for a multi-car incident. After missing Saturday’s qualifying session due to an unplanned engine change, Ryan Hunter-Reay was forced to start Sunday’s race from the rear. The first lap shuffle worked out in his benefit as he gained 13 positions on the first lap. The 28 team was poised for a top-10 result before an untimely yellow flag shuffled Hunter-Reay back again ultimately bringing home a 15th-place finish.
