Indianapolis 500 Qualifying Report

“Certainly disappointed with starting 22nd. I think if we had a chance at the end of the day (to make another attempt), I think we would have been somewhere around 14th or 15th. But, it is what it is. We can make up the spots in the race, it’s a long race. We will concentrate on the race car from here and do everything we can next Sunday to move the DHL car up through traffic.”

With Andretti Autosport drivers bookending the initial qualifying attempts, the team saw all five drivers earn starting positions for the 103rd Running of the Indianapolis 500.

  • STATUS: Secured Starting Position
  • STARTING POSITION: 22nd
  • QUALIFYING SPEED: 227.877 mph (four-lap average)
  • OF NOTE: Made only one qualifying attempt to secure a starting position for the American driver’s 12th Indy 500 start // Was strapped into his car for an opportunity to make another attempt when the gun fired at the end of the qualifying session

Sunday’s qualifying* will host the Last Row Shootout on NBC immediately followed by the Fast Nine Shootout at 1:15 p.m. ET. Once the grid is set, the 33 drivers who have earned starting positions will hit the track for a practice session at 3:15 p.m. ET.

*Should rain cancel Sunday’s Fast Nine track activity, today’s Fast Nine qualifiers would be the first nine Indy 500 starters, based on today’s qualifying speeds – including the Pole position.
